The presentation was made to the Jordanian Ambassador, who accepted the
cranes on behalf of the ailing King, who was ill with cancer at a New York hospital.
He died a few weeks later, in February 1999. The Jordanian Embassy informed us
that the cranes were taken to New York and were almost the last thing the King
saw before he died. He gave instructions for the panels to be hung in the Royal Palace
in Amman. King Hussein was respected internationally for his role as a mediator,
negotiator and proponent for peace in the Middle East.
